Digitalisย cariensisย subsp. ikarica
Height x Spread 50cm x 30cm
This perennial, native to the Greek Islands, is found naturally growing in free-draining gravel and stony soil.ย It forms a good perennial base but unlike most other DIGITALISย produces branched flower spikes rather than the upright single flower stem seen on others. Flowering in summer these small foxglove type flowers are cream to tawny orange in colour and very pollinator friendly.
Although not divisible, this Digitalisย will come true from seed. It works well in a gravel or sandy soiled garden as it prefers free draining soil but could be grown in a container, in which case we would advise you to use Melcourt Peat-free Compost with Added John Innes for better drainage. It grows in both sun or part shade.
This DIGITALIS would look fabulous with Anthemis punctata subsp. Cupaniana โNanaโ, Armeria caespitasa โBevanโs Varietyโ, HELIANTEMUM โWisley Whiteโ and Erodiumย โFelicityโ as they will offset the shape and colour beautifully.
All parts are poisonous.
