Orchid-like cream coloured flowers with magenta lower lips emerge from leaf junctions, during early summer. Its  dark green, deliciously honey scented leaves are held on short sturdy stems.

This versatile perennial is great for planting along a woodland path to highlight the way, or in drifts weaving through the front of an informal, shady border. Designers often use it for robust but attractive mass planting. A great cut flower, bees and butterflies love it. It grows best in a reasonably moist soil and prefers a partially shaded location but can tolerate some sun.
